This is the best definition of an EPOCH I have found: An epoch is where election/randomization process happens. Every 5 days, people 'roll their dice' and slot leaders for the next epoch are elected at that point. In Bitcoin, distribution occurs block by block. But in Cardano, the plan is to distribute incentives in an epoch by epoch base.
