I just can’t understand how this can be done, in theory, how are they created somehow?

What happens here is your 1 btc is locked on mainnet via smart contract and you're issued 1 btc on bep2 chain it's not actual Bitcoin but it's backed by 1 real bitcoin.so we consider it and treat it as equal in value with Bitcoin
