When staking via Yoroi is it possible to lose more than the amount staked? For example, if i stake 5000ADA and i check back 1.5 years later, can it show 4972ADA because i lost ADA while due to staking it???

Not possible unless someone besides you had access to your account or recovery seed

As others have said this is impossible technically. As there is no form of slashing in Cardano. So no matter what the pool you stake to does it can never reduce your initial stake. What can happen though is that the pool you delegate to goes offline, retires, messes up configuration, raises fees to 100% etc. In all those case you will get less new ADA, less or no rewards for your stake. You can never lose stake though.
