It might be possible, but what would prevent people to tinker with a node for a week and then forget about it (with the consequence of consensus time deterioration which won’t likely happen in Mainnet)?
What would be the consequence of some nodes going offline after a week of tinkering? Would it really matter for the consensus if there's a few hundred nodes running well?
