I have been on the waiting list for a long time and thought it would eventually be automatically staked. From the latest announcement it looks like this is not the case anymore and I need to choose a staking partner. Is this correct?
Yes that is correct, you can leave it there and it will automatically stake into active delegation, but there is no reason to wait as you can get a better rate with staking providers.
