Good info, thanks.
The part I don’t get is whether there’s 3,000 nodes or 15,000 nodes, the cost of 2/3+1 egld supply is still the same. I read the point your making is it’s “easier” to get multiple malicious nodes because the individual cost is lower..that would still require the same amount to make an attack though..no?
you need 2/3 +1 of all nodes
Currently there are 3200 nodes in total
ASSUMPTION
Reducing the requirement for a node to 32 EGLD and removing the waiting list and REMOVING the Node limit.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN
Other validators are already making more Nodes, because they now have the option to do so.
This loweres the APR for each and every one of them, significantly, drastically even so
Smaller validators will probably stop validating as they now earn a fraction of what they previously did.
Furthermore
A malicious actor could see this chance and take it.
Buy a few ten thousand, maybe hundred thousand EGLD
Set up a few thousand nodes
And enjoy owning the entire network
Without increasing fees to fund the APR or making EGLD inflationary or putting a Node limit (which will all lead to complaints), you can't fix this!
And one thing you CANNOT FIX with ever increasing node counts:
Network fees and network speed
The more nodes there are in this system, the more nodes will take part in validating and the network will take longer to reach consensus
